Unfortunately, most public influencers with over a few hundred followers on social media often forget that they don’t actually own everything they touch. This is especially relevant to the pictures that they post on their Instagram.
Yes, Instagram is a photo-sharing service. Yes, a lot of people may be taking pictures of you. No, this does not mean you own the photo. It is THAT simple.

Just last week, Gigi Hadid was slapped with a copyright infringement lawsuit. After posting a photo on Instagram and Twitter of herself posing (photo above), photographer Peter Cepeda filed for copyright infringement. Cepeda claims to hold exclusive rights to the photo, arguing that Hadid’s actions amounted to an “act of infringement [that] was willful and intentional, in disregard of and with indifference to the rights of Cepeda.”
