The must-have accessory of the week? Solar Eclipse eyewear, duh!
The problem? Amazon’s lack of ability to monitor and weed out the fakes.
As we all already know, the eclipse proved itself to be a must-watch event, but not without the proper protective eyewear, of course! Unfortunately for many consumers, thousands of counterfeit protective eyewear was sold on Amazon over the weeks leading up to the eclipse.
And due to the doctrine of secondary liability, Amazon can in fact be held liable for being connected with the sales of counterfeit products on its site, regardless of whether the company was aware of such activity.
Amazon has issued warnings and offering refunds to consumers who bought eyewear that has been marked as potentially unsafe. However, with much more than just style on the line, we’re not sure if Amazon will get out of this messy situation as easily.
