Things Get “Nasty” for Netflix’s Girlboss

We said it once and we’ll say it again. We love the #girlboss movement, but were not fans of its portrayal through Nasty Gal’s story on Netflix. And apparently, we weren’t the only ones.

Netflix has announced that it has cancelled the original series after just one season. Predominately based on the fact that Nasty Gal has plummeted, producers did not see the value added in continuing to tell Sophia Amoruso’s story.

As described by Fortune, “Reports of a toxic company culture tarnished Amoruso’s carefully-crafted message of female empowerment. A combination of overinvestment and revenue declines led to a November 2016 bankruptcy filing. As the show rolled out in April, Nasty Gal’s brand assets were sold to British fashion shop Boohoo.com for just $20 million.”
