The First Monday in May

Every fashion lover knows the significance of the first Monday in May – the Met Gala. The dreamy dresses are a perfect way to enjoy the Spring season and the theatrics of the Gala never fails to disappoint.

This year, the theme for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition and the 2017 Met Gala was Rei Kawakubo/Commes des Garçons. Remarkably, Rei Kawakubo will be the first living designer, since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983, to be the sole subject of this widely known fashion exhibit.

Kawakubo acted as honorary chair alongside Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams – who collaborated with Commes des Garçons to launch a fragrance – and, of course, the legendary Anna Wintour.

Given the creativity and the artistry that goes into putting on this exhibit, it is not hard to imagine that dressing in accordance with the theme can be difficult. While many stars dazzled, we were, in fact, underwhelmed by some of the looks this year. Nevertheless, below are some of our favourite styling choices, which were aligned with the theme and looked stunning.
